Sams II and Jean Stoick, is a finalist for the 2005 ForeWord Magazine Book of the Year Award in the category of children’s picture books. ForeWord Magazine is a journal established to bring increased attention to the literary achievements of independent publishers and authors. The "Book of the Year" awards honor excellence in independent publishing. Chosen by a jury of librarians, booksellers and reviewers, finalists and winners are chosen for their editorial excellence and professional production as well as the originality and value the book adds to its genre. In "Lost in the Woods," an explosion of green foliage, colorful wildflowers, and an assortment of feathered and furry forest friends, the talented husband and wife duo transport readers into the world of a newborn fawn. Weaving a warm and loving story interlaced with beautiful photography, the animals of the woods become concerned for a fawn they fear is "lost in the woods". The animals eventually discover the fawn isn't really lost. He is alone because Mother Doe instinctively knows she cannot stay with her fawn since her scent will attract predators. "We weren’t sure how we could follow the success of ‘Stranger in the Woods.’ We wanted to be sure ‘Lost in the Woods’ was as good, or even better," Sams explained.
