Michigan Photographers Honored in Washington, D.C.

MILFORD, MI. Three of the Great Lakes state's most notable photographers will have their work displayed in the rotunda of The Russell Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C. By invitation of Senator Carl Levin D-MI, photographs by Carl R. Sams II, Jean Stoick and Myles Willard will greet visitors to the historic building.

"The wonders of Michigan and of nature are reflected in the work of these three extraordinary photographers," Senator Levin said. "I wanted their work to grace the Russell Rotunda, where I work with my Washington staff, so that everyone who walks through our building can share the beauty of their photographs." Levin introduced the artists and their work during a press conference in the rotunda.

Sams and Stoick have authored several award winning books including their N.Y. Times best sellers, Stranger in the Woods and Lost in the Woods. These along with their other books highlight the beauty of Michigan's nature and wildlife with their photographs. "As a photographer, I want to show off the beautiful state of Michigan ." Sams said. "It's an honor to be asked to represent our state in this way" Stoick said.

Willard's work caught the eye of Levin at a local art show and that put the senator into action to get these images displayed. Willard, a retired teacher and nature photographer, travels giving lectures around the state.

The Russell Senate Office building is the oldest of the senate office buildings opening its doors in 1909. It occupies a spot just north of the U.S. Capitol Building. Works by various artists are periodically displayed in the building rotunda.

Sams' and Jean Stoick's work can be found by visiting their websites at: ww.carlsams.com or www.strangerinthewoods.com. More information can be obtained by calling 1-800-552-1867.
