<p>The article states that chickadees lack the heavier feathering of other wintering birds and are more susceptible to severe weather in the most temperate winter range they can find. If a heavy wind lifts their outer feathers, it can chill bare skin and steal metabolic energy. It&#8217;s a good read.</p>
