<p>The state of Montana&#8217;s policy is to put down orphaned deer that can&#8217;t survive alone in the wilderness. Officials from the Montana Fish, Wildlife &amp; Parks (FWP) want to guard against <a title="Chronic Wasting Disease" href="http://fwp.mt.gov/hunting/chronicwd.html" target="_blank">Chronic Wasting Disease</a> (CWD), while petition organizers want orphaned fawns tested for CWD, then saved.</p>

<p>According an article in the <a title="seacoastonline.com" href="http://www.seacoastonline.com/articles/20090709-NEWS-907090406" target="_blank">SeaCoastOnlin.com</a>, an orphaned fawn dodged cars and trucks at a traffic circle before being rescued by police and Fish and Game officers.</p>
<p>Fish and Game Officer Kent Gustafson said the fawn will be brought to a wildlife rescue facility in Madison, where it will be reared until fall, then released into the wild. <a title="seacoastonline.com" href="http://www.seacoastonline.com/articles/20090709-NEWS-907090406" target="_blank">View the article</a>.</p>
<p>Note: Fawns found alone in the woods are normally not lost or abandoned. We don&#8217;t advocate picking up fawns, but in this case the fawn and mother doe were separated and, due to traffic, leaving the fawn be would have put it in great danger.</p>
