This is a very interesting video. Who would have thought that hay may help clean up the BP oil spill.

A Florida-based contractor says he’s got an idea for how to use hay to cleanup much of the Gulf Coast oil spill. The contractor says he’s contacted BP to see if they’re interested.

Any options to safeguard wildlife and our environment from this oil spill sound good to me. Like the gentleman mentions in this video, taking huge round bales of hay and blowing them onto the water may be an efficient solution.

In keeping with their tradition of helping kids read during March is Reading Month, Carl and Jean donated 185 of their Find My Friends board books to the Head Start program at Huron Valley Schools Apollo Center near Milford, Michigan.

Carl and Jean are also donating their award winning In the Woods series (Lost in the Woods, Stranger in the Woods, First Snow in the Woods) of children’s picture books to the teachers at Apollo Center so they can read to the children and teach them gentle lessons of nature.

Huron Valley School Board member and Milford resident Lindsay Cotter collected and delivered the books. Lindsay said, “They are putting the books in the hands of the children that need them the most. Reading is the key to their future. The kids are so excited!”

We want to thank Lindsay Cotter for helping us make this happen and for delivering the books.

Recycling your Christmas tree benefits fish and wildlife. “In rural areas, discarded Christmas trees can be put to good use as erosion control or as brush piles to provide resting and escape cover for small animals,” according to the article “Fish, wildlife benefit from Christmas Trees after the holidays” from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.

We posted “Recycle your Christmas tree” on this blog a couple weeks ago. I think these posts are good reminders that you can help our wildlife friends, and reduce items going into landfills, by recycling your Christmas tree.

We may want to bring our snowman back out! A surprise winter storm hit us in Michigan. Everyone at Carl and Jean’s studio is hoping spring is here at last. It’s 50 degrees today.

I’m busy promoting the Spanish edition of our New York Times best selling children’s book Stranger in the Woods. I’m sending copies to Spanish distributors.

Today I read a blog post titled “Reading Chldren’s Books.” The posting is about how reading children’s books helps adults learn to read too. Read the article.
