Here’s an updated article,  ”Senator vows to rid bear baying“, about the cruel bear baying going on in South Carolina. South Carolina State Senator Joel Lourie plans to pre–file legislation to ban the practice of bear baying across the state.

“I was appalled by the recent reports in the media detailing this barbaric practice. It needs to be outlawed,” said Lourie who has been recognized by the Humane Society of the United States for his work to combat animal cruelty.

“South Carolina cannot have the distinction of being the only state where you can chain up a bear and sic dogs on it for sport.”

I could not agree more with Senator Lourie. Not only is bear baying extremely cruel and barbaric, it gives South Carolina a very bad image.

American Kennel Club
In other news, after learning about the bear baiting incidents, according to the Humane Society of the United States, the “American Kennel Club Cuts Ties with Cruel Bear Baiting Competitions after Investigation by The HSUS“. I could not find any news on the American Kennel Club’s website to confirm this but it would be a step for them in the right direction.

What do you think?

Who in the world thought of bear baiting? I can’t imagine anyone being cruel to an animal. I am trying to find an e-mail for Joel Laurie. I would like to help him in his quest. What kind of people live in South Carolina? Shame on those who do bear baiting.
