Groups working to preserve forests in New England before they disappear

A coalition of land trusts and other groups are working to preserve forests in New England and stave off development by identifying parcels to protect with the help of private funders. They are striving to protect 30 million acres of the region’s 33 million acres of forest by 2050, according to the article “New England Groups Plot to Save Their Dwindling Woodlands” in The New York Times.

Last month, 20 forest ecologists and policy experts sounded a warning in a new report: “For the first time since agricultural abandonment in the mid-1880s, all six New England states are experiencing a decline in forest cover.” Learn more.
