I’m excited to learn about the proposed Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge in southeast Wisconsin and northeast Illinois. I travel around this beautiful area when I visit one of my favorite places, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
The proposed Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge will be located between Milwaukee and Chicago. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, if a refuge is established it could improve or restore from 10,000 to 30,000 acres of drained wetland basins, historic prairie and forest habitats as well as linking existing conservation lands.
Did You Know?
Hackmatack is another name for the Tamarack Larch tree.
