Our art director, Karen McDiarmid, is keeping a mouse-keeper’s journal to write about her work with the mice featured in our upcoming new movie, First Snow in the Woods: The Movie, based on our award-winning children’s book First Snow in the Woods.

Karen is sharing her entries with us. Here’s part of the first one, dated September 1, 2009.

“Two little mice, as cute as can be, were donated to us from the Howell Nature Center. I, oh lucky me, am the designated mouse-keeper!

Since they will be tiny stars in our next movie, First Snow in the Woods: The Movie, it’s my job to train them.

The talking and singing I’ll leave to Laura and Robert Sams since I’ve already noticed that their little mouse voices are very soft. I will get them used to being handled and to associate food with giant people hands that must seem very scary to these tiny, furry creatures.

I named them Mynee and Mo. I don’t know if they’re boys or girls.”

More tomorrow.
