Fall. It’s my favorite time of the year. The fall leaf colors are vibrant and the temperatures crisp.
I’ve often wondered about the science behind fall leaf colors.
In the article, “Fall Color Change, Paul Whitaker, a biology professor says, “The leaves change colors as a bi-product of getting ready for winter, so there’s a little zone where the leaf attaches to the stem. The trees prepare to drop their leaves by sealing off that zone.”
The Professor explains that chlorophyll makes leaves the shade green, then breaks down everyday in the sunlight, making these beautiful, vibrant colors. View the article.
