Eagles
Carl has always talked about traveling to Alaska to experience high concentrations of eagles. We photographed more than 100 eagles flying over choppy waters, fighting the wind and snow blowing across the stony beach of Homer Spit.
We tucked ourselves into the back of the open hatchback of our car to protect our camera and lenses from the bitter wind.
"Your tripods will scare the eagles," the 'Eagle Lady' yelled out. We are focusing on a large raptor coming right at us with outstretched wings. At the last moment he veers upward. Thump-Thump! The hatchback wavers over our head. Carl and I look up through the glass to see an eagle's butt roosting inches away.
